The 2019 Crystal Lake Sailing School Staff

Jessica G - Sailing School Director

Jessica recently graduated from Furman University with a BA in Sociology and will be pursuing a certification in early education and special education in the Fall. Before graduating from Furman she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and served as their Membership Chairman and President. This will be her eighth summer with the CLSS, and she has worked as an instructor and the head instructor before becoming the Director! This summer she is also working with the National E Scow Association as their Director of Communication for Michigan and the Inlands. This means she gets to travel to regattas and post on their social media and website to promote the E Scow Class. Jessica started sailing on Butterflies when she was 5 years old and she started skippering a few years later. Jessica currently sails in the MC fleet and the E scow fleet. She has enjoyed each and every summer that she has spent with the CLSS and she is looking forward to another great year full of sailing fast and sailing fun.

Peyton O - Instructor

Peyton is from Oak Park, IL and this fall she will be a sophomore at Boston College. At Boston College she is studying international relations and theology. Peyton serves on the executive board of the competitive Model United Nations team, writes for the student newspaper, and works in the admissions office. Believe it or not, CLSS has been a part of her life for over twelve years: she started sailing as a student at CLSS when she was seven, and this summer will be her sixth year as an instructor. Peyton also crews in the MC and E Scow fleets at the CLYC. She is so excited to be returning to CLSS and cannot wait for another great summer on Crystal Lake!

Ramsey M - Instructor

Ramsey is from Richmond, Virginia, and will be senior at Millbrook School in Millbrook, New York. At Millbrook, he is a Peer Counselor and a member of the varsity lacrosse team. Ramsey has been coming to Crystal Lake in the summer for his whole life. He started sailing with his dad and grandfather when he was five and started skippering a Butterfly when he was 10. Currently, he sails in the MC Fleet and crews E Scow Fleet at the Crystal Lake Yacht Club. This year will be his fourth year working at the CLSS and he can’t wait for another great summer of sailing on the lake!

Jake started skippering in the Jr. Fleet when he was 11 years old, and now he enjoys crewing on MC Scows and E Scows. Last year, he served as the Fleet Captain for the Jr. Fleet. Jake has earned his level one US Sailing Certification and we are excited for him to be returning to our staff.

Jake O - Instructor

Jake is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and will be a sophomore at Hope College this coming fall. At Hope College, he is a business major and an active member of the sailing team, where he serves on the executive board as the public relations chair. Jake has grown up spending his summers boating and sailing in Northern Michigan, and enjoys any activity involving water, ranging from scuba diving to fly fishing. Jake has spent the last few summers living at his family cottage on Crystal Lake, and is very excited for the opportunity to work as an instructor at the Sailing School.

Phoebe O - Trainee

This is Phoebe's third summer working for the CLSS. This fall Phoebe will be a junior in high school. She loves to run, and is on both of her high schools cross country and track teams. She loves to swim and go water skiing on Crystal Lake. Phoebe has been sailing since she was 7 years old and it has always been one of her favorite summer pastimes. This year Phoebe is the Commodore for the Crystal Lake Yacht Club Jr. Fleet.

Seamus P - Trainee

Seamus P lives in the outskirts of New York City in a village called Hastings-on-Hudson. He will be a tenth grader come September. Seamus is fascinated by his language and history classes. He can’t wait to read the Aeneid this fall. While he cannot sail at home, he does run cross country/track.  Seamus loves Crystal Lake, especially the sunsets and the donuts from the Crescent Bakery in town. He also can’t wait to start his first year working for the CLSS!

Avery B - Trainee

Avery will be a sophomore in high school and goes to a boarding school in Ojai, Southern California. Avery loves school, hanging out with friends, playing sports and, of course, sailing! She has been sailing since she was four and has skippered in the Junior Fleet since she was nine. She has always loved sailing and spends almost everyday of her summer out on a boat. She attended sailing school for 10 years and this will be her first summer working at the CLSS. She loves sailing on Butterflies, MC’s and E’s. Aside from sailing, she loves to play tennis, lacrosse, soccer and loves to ski. Avery also loves to waterski and tube, but most of all she loves to spend time on Crystal Lake. Avery has been coming to Crystal Lake her whole life and looks forward to coming up every year. Avery is super excited to get back to sailing, and even more excited for her first year working at the Crystal lake Sailing School!
