The 2025 Crystal Lake Sailing School Staff
Jessica B - Sailing School Director
Jessica has been with the sailing school since 2013. She graduated from Furman University in 2019 with a bachelors in sociology and an elementary teaching certification. She currently teaches third grade in Columbia, SC and is pursuing her masters in administration and leadership. Jessica’s favorite sailing memory is her dad teaching her how to sail when she was only 5 years old.
Lily W - Instructor and PR intern
Lily will be going into her junior year at the University of Wisconsin - Madison in the fall. She is pursuing a double major in both Political Science and Journalism. This will be her fourth year at Crystal Lake Sailing School, but this summer she will be transitioning to a part-time instructor as she takes over the role as PR intern. Lily’s favorite sailing memory is the many tipping parties during her time in the junior fleet. In her free time, Lily enjoys to travel, read, and be outside!
Mayse B - Instructor
Mayes will be entering her senior year at The Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas. She is a varsity cheerleader and also plays softball and basketball. This summer, Mayes is excited to return to Crystal Lake Sailing School as head instructor for the first time. She previously spent two years as a trainee and one year as an instructor. Mayes is CPR certified and loves working with younger sailors. She looks forward to mentoring new trainees and making the summer fun and safe for all the kids. One of her favorite memories is meeting her now best friend, Bea, at sailing school when they were younger. In her free time, Mayes enjoys being outside, staying active, and spending time with friends.
brady W - Instructor
Brady will be going into his freshman year at the University of Colorado in the fall. He loves to sail and started skippering in the junior fleet when he was 10. His favorite sailing memory is his crew Chase getting his first first place! Brady loves to be outside, he loves to ski in the winter and wake surf in the summer!
Taylor r - Instructor
Taylor is a 17 year old from Indiana and will be going into her senior year of high school. Taylor started sailing when she was 11 years old and this is her first year as a sailing instructor at the Crystal Lake Sailing School. Her favorite sailing memory was sailing the “outlet and back” race with her best friend Bea during her time in the junior fleet.
Bea p - Trainee
Bea will be going into her junior year at Louisville Collegiate School in Louisville, Kentucky. Bea is 16, and this will be her second summer working at Crystal Lake Sailing School. Her favorite sailing memory was sailing in the Outlet and Back Race with Taylor, another CLSS instructor!
eva s - Trainee
This fall, Eva will be a sophomore at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California. She is 15 and this will be her second summer working at CLSS. Her favorite sailing memory is signing inside of the yacht club when it’s raining, while waiting to see if Junior Fleet races will be cancelled. During the school year, she enjoys being on her high school dance team and hanging out with her friends.
REx B - Trainee
Rex is from Grand Rapids, and is 15 years old. Rex will be starting his freshman year in the fall. He started crewing in the Junior Fleet when he was 5. Rex’s favorite sailing memory was when he won a race for the first time 2 years ago and got thrown off the dock!
Tyson L - Trainee
Tyson is 15 years old and from Denver, Colorado. He will be going into his sophomore year, at St. Paul’s Boarding School in New Hampshire. He has been coming to the lake my entire life and started sailing when he was 5 years old. His favorite lake memory is butterfly nationals when there was no wind, but everyone was laughing and singing songs together. It made the boring day one of the best. During his free time, he loves to listen to music, travel, and spend time with friends and family.
Avery R - Trainee
Avery is heading into her junior year at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indiana. This will be her first summer working as an instructor at the Crystal Lake Sailing School, and she’s super excited to share her love of sailing and being on the water with new sailors. Some of her favorite memories on the water are from the fun (and sometimes competitive!) junior fleet regattas. When she’s not sailing, Avery loves spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing tennis and spending time outdoors.
Sam L - Trainee
Sam is from Denver, Colorado and is 15. He will be going into his sophomore year of high school in the fall. Sam started sailing when he was 11, and his favorite sailing memory is sailing with his dad on the E Scow.
